These Striking Powerful Sculptures of Overlapping Hands Visualize Our Connection to Nature and Each Other

Anton Smit, a South African sculptor, is renowned for his powerful artwork that revolves around themes of reconciliation, glory, and suffering. Whether in a large or small-scale format, Smit's sculptures are a force of nature. Notably, his bronze sculptures of hands are incredibly striking. These overlapping hands form small circles, or, as they are often titled, tornados.

Tornado and Whirlwind are a series of dynamic sculptures that express the interconnectedness of humanity. It is only through the contribution of all the hands that the circle becomes whole. This message is particularly relevant in these trying times, where conflicts and differences often divide rather than unite us.

Smit aims to engage viewers in conversation through his sculptures. He successfully achieves this with his captivating and mesmerizing artwork that immediately grabs the attention of the audience. Despite their stunning simplicity, the sculptures encourage us to contemplate the idea that we are just one of many.
